After the 2024 Paris Olympics, the trend of sports in Hong Kong seems to be even more prevalent. The author shares her experiences over the years in helping athletes improve their performance from the perspective of sports psychology, as well as her writing insights, through two books on the subject.
About the Speaker: Ms. LO Cheuk-hang, Karen (Applied Sport and Performance Psychologist)
Former member of the Hong Kong Swimming Team, Ms. Lo has represented Hong Kong in numerous international competitions. She has received awards for her achievements, including the Outstanding Swimmer Award from the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association and the Outstanding Athlete Award from the Hong Kong Sports Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Psychology from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Counseling and Sports Psychology from Boston University in the United States. She is also a registered sports psychologist with the American Association of Applied Sports Psychologists (AASP) and the International Society of Sports Psychology. In 2023, she was awarded the 'Global Impact Award' by her alma mater, Boston University's School of Education and Human Development.
Ms. Lo aims to bring sports psychology to the community and raise public awareness. She is the only author in Hong Kong to publish a reference book on sports psychology. In 2019, she released Hong Kong's first book on the subject, titled 'Sports Psychology: Building Confidence and Achieving Potential'. This book was selected as one of the candidates for the 'Ten Best Books' for secondary schools in 2020. Her second book, 'Sports Psychology 2: Who Are You Beyond Being an Athlete?', was chosen as a candidate for the 'Ten Best Books' for secondary schools in 2025 and became a bestseller at Hong Kong Eslite. Both books are included in the secondary school reference book series.
